Maco Light
There
is a famous ghost story surrounding the former station at Maco on the abandoned
section of former SCL/ACL rail between Malmo and Whiteville, NC. Some
accounts say that the light has been seen since the rails were removed in
1977, others say the light has disappeared. Read about the legend using

This
is the view now in Maco looking W along the abandoned ROW at NC 87. The
Maco station was apparently close to this location, and the area of the "Maco
Light" was a little bit further west. (March 2001)
Looking
the other direction (E) along NC 87 at Maco, NC. Wilmington is another
15 - 20 miles away across the Cape Fear River. This section of railroad
was abandoned in 1977. It is still apparent where the pavement was cut
to remove the rails.
